The universe this is set in belongs to Tribune and
Roddenberry-Kirschner, among others.
Notes: This continues the storyline set in "Table Talk" and also
occurs before the series.
The evidence was there on her desk. She hadn't had to go very far to
find it. It was exactly what Mizi had talked about, the hold-ups in
books going to press and being published.
Alex Ravachov's "The Church and the Companions" had been held up by
every major publishing firm that she knew about. It *had* been
published, by a small firm, but from reports, it was intensely
difficult to get, except through the publisher. No bookstore, it
seemed, would carry it, even the small independents.
But Ravachov's book wasn't the only one getting delayed. She recalled,
through convention gossip, a book that painted the Companions in a
less-than-flattering light. And there was another, she'd read on the
'net, which was slowly being turned into a humor book instead. Humor
books seemed to be perfectly fine.
Most people would think that the books were getting squashed because of
lack of appeal or lousy scholarship. Even she would have, if Mizi
hadn't tokd her about Ravachov's woes. The stories were spreading
quietly like wildfire at the convention; one only had to listen in on
the conversations to tell that everybody was worried.
Of course, there were the ones who laughed at the rumours, but she
wasn't one of them. She was sure if she continued digging, she'd find
even more examples. More proof that the Companions weren't all that
More proof that the world may be falling apart, and nobody noticing.
All in rumours.
